Partnership between Natura and Bioverse uses Xmobots drone for Amazon Mapping and Artificial Intelligence

During the ANPEI Innovation Conference 2024, held on August 21 and 22, Natura announced a strategic partnership with Bioverse for an innovative forest mapping project in the Amazon using drones from Xmobots, the sixth largest drone company in the world.

This collaboration aims to transform the way forest inventory and species identification are carried out, using advanced drones and artificial intelligence.

Cutting-edge Technology for the Preservation of the Amazon

Xmobots, known for its expertise in high-tech drones, presented the Nauru 500C drone, which will be the main instrument used by Bioverse to collect forestry data.

Artur Lioni, Environmental Projects Coordinator at Xmobots, emphasized the importance of this technology: "We go to the field, we fly the drone, we identify the best camera, the best lens, to do the best possible job of identifying the species."

This innovative approach overcomes the limitations of satellites, which still lack the resolution needed for a detailed inventory.

Impact on the Bioeconomy and Production Chains

Bioverse, which acquired the Nauru 500C, will use the drone to identify, through artificial intelligence, key species used by Natura in the production of cosmetics. Francisco D'Elia, CEO of Bioverse, emphasized the importance of this almost two-year partnership with Xmobots.

"We have opened up a new frontier in non-timber forest inventory, with a focus on promoting the bioeconomy and structuring production chains," said D'Elia.

Support for Innovation and Sustainability

The project also received financial support from FINEP, whose Superintendent of Decentralized Operations, Fernanda Stiebler, praised the collaboration between the companies.

"Innovation comes about when smaller companies, which have the technology, team up with larger companies, which have the ability to test and scale," said Stiebler, pointing to this partnership as an example of success in the development of innovative projects.

Preserving the Amazon on an Exponential Scale

Rômulo Zamberlan, Head of Advanced Research at Natura, emphasized the impact of this partnership on the preservation of the Amazon and sustainable development. He pointed out that, with the use of the drone, the forest inventory process, which used to take nine months, can now be carried out in just one day.

"We managed to speed up the forest inventory process by 200 times," said Zamberlan, expressing optimism about the next steps in this collaboration.

A New Chapter in the Sustainable Bioeconomy

The collaboration between the companies marks a significant step forward in preserving the Amazon and promoting a sustainable bioeconomy. By integrating cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence, these companies are redefining the role of innovation in conserving natural resources and enhancing the biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest.

This partnership promises not only to accelerate forest mapping, but also to set a new standard for sustainability projects, where technology and nature work together for a better future.
