Coffee: drones become allies of the bean in a challenging year

Agricultural technology gains ground in crops and helps overcome challenges in the field

Agricultural drones become a working tool for coffee producers

Even in a year of negative biennials, Brazilian coffee production is heading for a slight increase. This is shown by the second survey of the 2025 harvest by the National Supply Company, Conab (via CNN Brasil), which projects 55.7 million 60-kg bags - an increase of 2.7% on the previous harvest.

When compared to the 2023 cycle, another low biennial year, the advance is 1.1% (via GOV.BR). The figures reflect the performance of conilon coffee, with an estimated 18.7 million bags, and arabica, with 37 million.

The average yield should be 30 bags per hectare, covering an area of 2.25 million hectares.

Technology taking hold: drones in coffee growing

Although recent in some regions, spraying with drones has already become part of the routine on many farms.

Studies by the Federal University of Lavras-MG (via Agribusiness Portal) show that, with the right flight height, speed and spray volume parameters, drones provide homogeneous and precise applications.

The ease with which they can operate on sloping terrain, which is common in coffee production, is an important differentiator. In addition, they can work immediately after rain, keeping to the management schedule to avoid losses.

Economy, safety and efficiency

More than just agility, drones also offer operational savings by avoiding the waste of inputs, as well as reducing people's exposure to chemicals.

For André Mazi, an agronomist at Xmobots and a coffee grower, the efficiency also extends to disease control:

"Even for the control of rust, a fungal disease that concentrates on the underside of plants and leaves, drones are highly efficient due to the vortex effect, which enables the product to reach the most hidden parts of the coffee plantation," he explains.he explains.

From traditional methods to the adoption of technology

Alexandre Mion, a service provider from São Carlos-SP, decided to invest in a DJI AGRAS T40 drone because he believes that this technology will improve the flow of work in the field.

"Drone application leaves nothing to be desired in coffee production compared to tractor control. With the drone, for example, you can spray 50 hectares in an average of six hours. This agility in carrying out the service is a huge advantage, as well as effectively combating the miner bug, one of the crop's main pests," says Mion.says Mion.

Alexandre found Xmobots Agriculture to be the ideal partner for his own business, as he had specialized support in the field:

"Xmobots became a reference for me after many people recommended the company to me. The assistance offered in the after-sales channel was a decisive factor in my choice"says the service provider.

A complete ecosystem for the field

With thousands of drones distributed in Brazil, Xmobots Agriculture, DJI's official reseller in the country since 2022, offers the AGRAS line and integrated solutions for producers and service providers.

Mobile management: DAASFY

The DAASFY platform allows you to create spray orders directly from your cell phone, defining products, climate limits and application parameters. After the operation, the producer receives a complete summary, also via cell phone.

Field efficiency: SPAD 200B

The SPAD 200B is a system that carries two DJI AGRAS drones and has dual mixers, a reservoir and generators. The SPAD 200B, with just one pilot and one badeco, extends the operation to up to four hours, covering 190 hectares, with standardization and economy.

Tailor-made power: XGEN generators

The XGEN 10 (for operations with spray drones of 25L or smaller) and XGEN 20 (for operations with spray drones of 30L or larger) generators guarantee autonomy and performance in the field.

XGEN generators are designed exclusively for drone spraying

With features such as electronic injection and industrial sockets, XGEN generators are compatible with accessories such as XMixer (grout mixer), XRTK base (for increased precision in drone operations), as well as night lighting.
