ARATOR ALSO FLIES HIGH IN WATER PROJECTS

XMobots' Arator 5B drone has participated in dam projects throughout Brazil. Terra Brasil Serviços de Engenharia, a company from Santa Catarina represented by Valter Luis Felzmann and coordinated by Thadeu Ribas Lugarini, specializes in topography and hydrology services for infrastructure and energy projects such as dams, highways, railroads and transmission lines, and now knows that Arator can be used for projects in larger areas.

The company has opted for the Arator 5B fixed-wing drone because of its better performance, versatility, productivity and the accuracy of the onboard GNSS RTK HAL system, which is more effective than multirotor drones.

At the end of 2020, Terra Brasil concluded its participation in the Capané Dam project, in Rio Grande do Sul, and used the Arator 5B to carry out the aerial survey for this project.

CAPANÉ DAM PROJECT

In 2017, IRGA (Instituto Rio Grandense do Arroz) was granted a license to preserve and collect water from the Capané Dam by the Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development. Three years later, the institute requested a project to adapt the dam.

After a number of accidents over time, the Capané Dam has been working with a water level below its maximum capacity. And after more than 80 years since it was built without any engineering project, it really needed to be modernized for safety reasons and even to continue its irrigation purpose, irrigating more than 5,500 hectares of rice fields at its normal capacity instead of the current 2,500 hectares.

Terra Brasil, hired to work on strategic parts of the project requested by IRGA, used Arator 5B to carry out planialtimetric mapping, a digital topographic model (DEM - Digital Elevation Model) with contour lines and the generation of orthorectified images.

The Arator 5B, a fixed-wing drone developed and manufactured by XMobots, has an autonomy of more than 60 minutes, the capacity to map 1,200 hectares per flight and is the only one with ANAC design approval for flights over 400ft. This aircraft was essential for the Capané Dam project.

Embedded in the Arator 5B, the XM3 sensor, developed by XMobots, which guarantees a high coverage range for imaging, was also a key element in the successful use of the drone in the project. More than 20,000 hectares were mapped, from the Capané Dam to the city of Cachoeira do Sul, and distributed over nine flight areas, generating extremely high-resolution images using the best sensor for photogrammetry.

Using the Arator 5B between September and November 2020, Terra Brasil completed its work on the project in December of the same year.

Terra Brasil isn't stopping. At the start of 2021, the company is already using the Arator 5B in a new project at the Boa Vista Dam in Lençóis Maranhenses, details of which will also be released by XMobots at a later date. And Terra Brasil has plans for other major projects before the end of the year.
