The Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) now has an important ally in its teaching and research activities focused on the environment. Through a partnership with the State Public Prosecutor's Office, the institution has acquired an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), also known as a drone, for environmental diagnosis of degraded areas. The equipment is the Echar 20B, an aircraft developed by the company XMobots and authorized to fly by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).
According to UFMT assistant professor André Marcondes Andrade Toledo, the UAV will be used in the Agricultural and Environmental Engineering course (UFMT Rondonópolis campus). The images processed by the aircraft will help diagnose degraded areas. They will also help map permanent preservation areas (APPs).
There is also the possibility, in the near future, of the UAV assisting the university's administrative activities, with regard to aerial imaging of the institution's three campuses, explains the professor.
Today, Toledo and fellow professor Normandes Matos da Silva have already made their first inaugural flights. It was a milestone in the beginning of the UAV's activities.
