On Tuesday (2), the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) approved regulations that allow the use of drones - remotely piloted aircraft. Among the new features is the requirement for pilots of equipment weighing more than 25 kg to be licensed.
A pilot's license and permit will also be required when drones weighing less than 25 kg are flown above 400 feet, or 121 meters. In addition, for any type of drone there will be a requirement for the pilot to be over 18 years old.
At Tuesday's meeting, the president of Anac, Ricardo Botelho, said that the use of drones in violation of the rules will result in administrative, civil and criminal proceedings.
The regulation divides aircraft into three categories:
- vehicles weighing more than 150 kg;
- vehicles between 25 and 150 kg;
- drones weighing less than 25 kg.
The requirements laid down in the regulation for each of them:
- vehicles weighing more than 25 kg: registration with Anac
- vehicles weighing more than 250 grams and up to 25 kg: registered on the Anac website
- vehicles weighing less than 250 grams: no registration required
The expectation is that the standard will allow for a major expansion of the remotely piloted aircraft market in uses such as crop spraying, private and public security and delivery services.
Use already required authorization
To operate drones, it was already necessary to have individual authorization from Anac. According to the agency's press office, around 400 authorizations have already been issued, most of them to public security agencies.
However, the lack of regulations meant that the agency had to analyze requests on a case-by-case basis and veto many of them. With the regulation, the rules for use have been established.
